Rohit Sharma is an Indian cricketer, born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He is a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm off-break bowler. Rohit is widely regarded as one of the best limited-overs batsmen in the world. He has represented the Indian cricket team in all three formats of the game – Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I).

Early Life:

Rohit Sharma was born to Purnima Sharma and Gurunath Sharma in Nagpur. His father worked as a caretaker in a transport firm storehouse. Rohit spent his childhood in Borivali, a suburb of Mumbai, where he developed a keen interest in cricket. He attended Swami Vivekanand International School and later moved to DAV School in Borivali. Rohit started playing cricket at the age of 11 and was coached by Dinesh Lad, the father of his childhood friend and future Mumbai teammate, Siddhesh Lad.

Career:

Domestic Career:

Rohit Sharma made his domestic debut for Mumbai in 2006, playing in the Ranji Trophy. He scored a century in his very first match and went on to make 205 runs in five matches in his debut season. He made his List A debut later that year, playing for West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 2006 U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

In 2007, Rohit scored his maiden List A century in the Deodhar Trophy. He also scored a double century for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, becoming the third-youngest player to score a double hundred in first-class cricket.

International Career:

Rohit Sharma made his international debut for India in an ODI against Ireland in 2007. He scored 50 runs in his debut match and went on to score his first century in the following year against Zimbabwe. He played his first T20I against England in 2007.

In 2013, Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the third cricketer in the world to score a double century in ODIs, when he made an unbeaten 209 runs against Australia in Bangalore. He also became the highest individual scorer in a single ODI inning, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 200 not out. In 2014, he scored two more double centuries in ODIs, becoming the only batsman to achieve the feat.

Rohit Sharma made his Test debut in 2013 against the West Indies. He struggled in his early Test career but found success as an opener in the longest format of the game. In 2019, he became the first cricketer in history to score five centuries in a single World Cup tournament. His performances helped India reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

Indian Premier League (IPL):

Rohit Sharma has been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008. He started his IPL career with the Deccan Chargers in 2008 and played for them till 2010. He was then bought by the Mumbai Indians in 2011, and he has been playing for them ever since. Rohit has captained Mumbai Indians since 2013 and has led them to five IPL titles, the most by any team in the tournament’s history.
