Dravid is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers in Indian cricket history, known for his technique, patience, and consistency. He has also been praised for his contribution to the game off the field as a coach and mentor.

Early Life:

Rahul Dravid’s father, Sharad Dravid, worked for a company that made jams and preserves, while his mother, Pushpa Dravid, was a professor of architecture. Dravid grew up in Bangalore and attended St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School. He started playing cricket at the age of 12 and was coached by Keki Tarapore, a former cricketer.

Domestic Career:

Rahul Dravid made his domestic debut for Karnataka in 1991, playing in the Ranji Trophy. He scored a century in his debut match and went on to score 380 runs in his debut season. He made his List A debut later that year, playing for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy.

In 1994, Dravid scored his maiden List A century in the Wills Trophy. He also scored a double century for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy, becoming the first player to score a double hundred in each of the three domestic formats of Indian cricket – Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy.

International Career:

Rahul Dravid made his international debut for India in an ODI against Sri Lanka in 1996. He scored 3 runs in his debut match and went on to score his first century in the following year against Pakistan. He played his first Test match against England in 1996.

In 1999, Dravid played a crucial role in India’s victory in the World Cup, scoring 461 runs in the tournament at an average of 65.85. He was named the Player of the Series for his performances in the tournament.

Dravid also played a key role in India’s historic Test series win against Australia in 2001, where he scored 233 runs in the second Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He was also part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2003 World Cup, where they lost to Australia.

In 2004, Dravid was appointed the captain of the Indian team. He led India to a Test series win against Pakistan in Pakistan, which was India’s first Test series win in Pakistan. He also led India to a Test series win against England in England in 2007, which was India’s first Test series win in England in 21 years.

Dravid retired from international cricket in 2012, after playing 164 Test matches and 344 ODIs for India. He scored 13,288 runs in Test cricket at an average of 52.31, which included 36 centuries and 63 half-centuries. He also scored 10,889 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 39.16, which included 12 centuries and 83 half-centuries.

Indian Premier League (IPL):

Rahul Dravid has been associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008. He started his IPL career with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2008 and played for them till 2013. He was then bought by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2014, and he coached and mentored the team for four seasons till 2018. Under his leadership, RR reached the playoffs of the IPL in 2018.
